The post on Borgen Suppers relates the story of the origins of our collective interest in NOIR, especially its nordic-themed variety, rendered in the ‘dogme’ cinematic style. We’d have sicilian lunches to chew the cud around plot, character and landscape. So it was with some interest that I came across this piece in todays Guardian. It is in a sense, an easy piece, drawing as it does on previous explorations of the ‘salvo’ draw and cultural tourism in general. The one thing I guess that I miss in nordic renderings of NOIR is the subtle melodrama of light, architecture, furniture and landscape. Dapple, shade, shadow and sunshine are textual components of palette that Nordic themes employ through absence.
