Bravo Dicte! – #Dicte Crime Reporter

dicte_3D_DVDDicte Svendsen (Iben Hjejle) is Nordic Noir’s 21st century Jessica Fletcher in the sense that crime seems to be attracted to her and the show is ever so slightly formulaic.  She may also be the Nordic Noir fan’s version of Carrie Bradshaw. She has a great gang of girlfriends, she is driven in her job and she always looks great. There is a smattering of sex in the show and lots of relationship chat between the characters, again giving it a very Sex and the City feel.  An underlying plot line about the unwanted pregnancy and forced adoption that Dicte experienced when she was very young runs through the first series.

Dicte is a crime procedural drama set in Aarhus in Denmark and is based on a series of books by Danish author Elsebeth Egholm.  Aarhus is the European Capital of Culture in 2017 and I am sure the local tourist board is hoping the show will profile their city and attract visitors to it. They have a webpage all ready and waiting for those of us who like to visit where our favourite TV shows are made here. Aarhus is not a big place so relationships are established quickly between the main character and the local police force where detective John Wagner (Lars Brygmann) is a solid, methodical supporting role to Dicte’s more intuitive (but faster working) role. Being a crime reporter Dicte’s job puts her into some dangerous situations as she digs deeper for her stories that explore topics such as the illegal organ trade, prostitution and slavery but (obviously) as well as reporting on the crimes she solves them as well! Bravo Dicte!

Dicte is freshly released on DVD today and was recently on our screens as part of the Walter Presents showcase on More 4.

  1. Covering Dicte for the next issue of Crime Scene magazine!

    1. I’ll watch out for that Barry. I’ve enjoyed it but for very different reasons than I liked The Killing or The Bridge.

  2. Reblogged this on Nordic Noir and commented:

The second season of Danish drama Dicte will receive its UK premiere on More4 on Friday July 7th at 9pm. You can read our review of Season 1 here:
