Hurrah! A new Danish show starts this Saturday on BBC4 at 9pm. ‘1864’ tells the tale of 2 brothers in the Second Schleswig War when Denmark fought against Prussian troops with devastating losses. It is seen as a pivotal point in history when the German empire began to grow stronger. The ten-part series is directed by Ole Bornedal (Nightwatch, 1994) and stars many familiar faces. Lars Mikkelsen and Søren Malling from The Killing and Borgen’s Sidse Babett Knudsen and Pilou Asbæk. The series is made by DR who also made The Killing, Borgen and The Legacy.
